Zadok - Part 6 - Zadok Took The Oil And Anointed Solomon
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“Then King David said, ‘Call to me Zadok the priest... and have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon. Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel, and blow the trumpet and say, “Long live king Solomon!”’”
1 Kings 1:32-34
Once again there had arisen a plot against David: “Now Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king” (1 Kings 1:5). Many of King David’s key men went over to the side of Adonijah, including his general, Joab. “But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah” (1 Kings 1:8).
Zadok led the list of the names of those who remained faithful to David during this time of rebellion. For all we know, Zadok’s immediate loyalty to David could have helped strengthen the resolve and courage to remain loyal to David in the others named on this list.
David had a simple and direct plan. Anoint Solomon as king right away and declare him as such in the city, even as Adonijah and his followers were celebrating their own feast. And this is exactly what happened.
“So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on king David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon. Zadok the priest then took the horn of oil from the tent and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet, and all the people said, ‘Long live Solomon’” (1 Kings 1:38-39).
The sound of this celebration went all the way back into the city of Jerusalem, where Adonijah and his rebellious crowd actually heard the trumpets blast and, at that moment, Jonathan the son of now rebellious priest Abiathar arrived, announcing to them that Solomon was now king, and was sitting upon the throne.
Adonijah’s followers fled in fear for their lives while Adonijah, himself, “arose, went and took hold of the horns of the altar” (verse 50), hoping for mercy from Solomon, which was granted at that time.
Do you see in this account how “Zadok the priest” was David’s immediate “go to” man? Loyal priest Zadok, who joined David in the wilderness, saved David from Absalom, and now saved David once again; this is the one whose descendants, “the sons of Zadok,” remained loyal to God, covenant, and priesthood hundreds of years later “when the sons of Israel went astray from Me” (Ezekiel 44:15). What an example of holy dedication their fore-father was to them... and is to us.
Beloved child of God, I urge you to fully receive and remain loyal to our King and High Priest of His Own New Covenant, Jesus Christ, and minister as a priest to Him. I believe this simple and full loyalty to our God (of king, covenant, and priesthood) insures a life of dedication for us that will stand as a beacon and example to all of God’s children. I also believe this simple and direct loyalty to our King, covenant, and priesthood, will allow us the great grace and favor to be led by God’s Spirit effectively, even as Zadok was so effectively used by God.
See this - Zadok began by following God’s anointed king, David, and because of his loyalty to king, covenant, and his priesthood, Zadok was blessed of God to be the one who himself would anoint David’s son, Solomon, as king! Zadok lived a life in the anointing!
Bless your anointed King Jesus this day, for “He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father - to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen” (Revelation 1:6). “But of the Son, He says, ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You’” (Hebrews 1:8-9).
Yes, live your life in His anointing!
Hallelujah!
