Focus On The Inner Man
Today’s Word Of Encouragement from Wayne:
“Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day”
2 Corinthians 4:16
Do you ever worry that you may be losing heart as a Christian, living the Christian life in this present world?
If so, then here is your blessed remedy, a gift from God to you. It is this - your “inner man is being renewed day by day.”
Losing heart, according to the wisdom in this Scripture, is related to the “decaying” nature of all things in the outer world where our “outer man” lives. Yes, it is true, in this world, we are aging, as are all things, and there is a pronounced state of decay, morally and spiritually. So, sure, it’s easy to understand how one might “lose heart,” if they were only looking at these things.
But we are not of this world, are we? Not this outer world, “where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal” (Matthew 6:19), as our Savior said . We may be in it, but we are definitely not of it, and this is key to our understanding the river of life contained in this verse, ready to flow perpetually to us through the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ (John 7:38).
“The outer man is decaying.” However, renewal, on the other hand, is taking place constantly, “day by day,” in our “inner man,” our true new self, where Christ dwells within, our Immanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
Simply put, focusing on “our outer man” places us in a decaying reality which can only cause us to “lose heart.”
Whereas, focusing on “our inner man” places us in a renewing reality which can only cause us to “take heart.”
Yes take heart this day, the heart of Jesus Christ for you.
I pray you will be blessed to receive the light of this truth, that “our inner man is being renewed day by day.” Be renewed with Him now, beloved child of God, in His presence. And then, continue, gratefully, “being renewed day by day.” Hallelujah!
