Ministering To The Lord Is Foolishness To Worldly Religion

Today's Word of Encouragement from Wayne:

"Then it happened as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David that Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart"

2 Samuel 6: 16

A spiritual Christian has a spiritual identity. A worldly Christian (which is actually an oxymoron) has a worldly identity. When David danced before the Lord, he was dressed as a simple priest and this was his spiritual identity. His wife, Michal, preferred David the mighty and dashing warrior, whom she fell in love with. So when she saw her husband "dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart." This same struggle unfortunately exists today for many a believer. Who am I really? Am I who the world says I am, or wants me to be? Or am I who God says I am? Will I care more about how I look to this world or will I live as a spiritual vessel filled with God and living for God? Am I self-conscious about worship or am I God-conscious about worship?

Worldly religion may look good on the outside, but there is no spiritual life or identity on the inside, and worldly religion desires conformity to itself rather than to Christ. Whereas to be a child of God is to be a Christian, which is to be a true follower of Jesus Christ, in spirit and in truth. I believe one reason why our spiritual priesthood is overlooked today is that, indeed, many people claiming to be religious are definitely more enamored with what the world thinks and does rather than with who God says that we are, "a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession" (1Peter 2:9). David was rejoicing as he looked at God while Michal was despising as she looked at David. Oh if only Michal would have beheld the Lord too. Let us look to our Lord today and rejoice in our spiritual identity in Him.

Who we are in this world can’t come close to who we are in the Lord. Our true spiritual identity always flourishes in the presence of God as we minister to Him, for He is worthy to be praised and adored at all times. Yes, it is wonderful to live in the freedom of God’s sight rather than to continue being in bondage to other people’s limited sight, opinion and judgment. Yes. Let us love God today in His presence and hope that others around us will desire to do the same. Hallelujah!
