The Divine Prophetic Thread - From Melchizadek Through David To Jesus Christ
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, ‘You are a priest forever’; so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant”
Hebrews 7:21-22, Psalm 110:4
Melchizadek is mentioned only two times in entire the Old Testament, in Genesis 14 and Psalm 110. Whereas Melchizadek is expounded upon, in depth, in the New Testament book of Hebrews (Hebrews 4:14-5:11 /6:19-10:25).
Witness this beautiful and divine prophetic thread, which traces from the very first book of the Bible, Genesis, through David’s Psalm 110, and then into the revelation and realization of Jesus Christ, our “priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek” (Hebrews 5:6).
First, in Genesis 14, we see this, “Melchizadek King of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High. He blessed him and said, ‘Blessed be Abram of God Most High’” (Genesis 14:18-19).
Then, in Psalm 110, David wrote, “The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek’” (Psalm 110:4).
Finally, in Hebrews, we see, “The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, ‘You are a priest forever’; so much the more also Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant” (Hebrews 7:21-22).
The seed of this prophetic truth, of Jesus Christ, our “forever” High Priest of a new Covenant, is planted all the way back in Genesis, with Melchizadek, king of Salem (peace) and “priest of God Most High,” who happened to have bread and wine with him, the specific elements of our communion in Jesus Christ, foretelling His broken body and New Covenant blood, just as Jesus said in Luke 22:19-20.
Then the seed sprouts in Psalm 110 when God, speaking directly through David, declares a new coming time where there will be an eternal priest and priesthood, with Messiah being both king and priest, after the order of Melchizadek, implying a coming New Covenant.
Then the sprouted seed of Psalm 110 comes to full maturity and prophetic realization in the Person of Jesus Christ, our King and High Priest, “forever,” of a New and “better” Covenant.
How blessed you and I are, to be in this New and “better” Covenant with our “forever” High Priest, Jesus Christ. To think that the truth we are privileged and appointed to walk in today was first foretold all the way back in Genesis is amazing grace to us indeed.
We are so blessed with God’s best. We have the best High Priest, best King, and best Covenant of all time. I encourage you to minister as a priest to your High Priest today; to both thank Jesus and to grow in the knowledge of Christ your High Priest.
Hallelujah!
