Our Eternal Father
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of peace”
Isaiah 9:6
Wait, how can this be? How can the son who “will be given to us” be called “Eternal Father?” How is this possible?
How can “Eternal Father” God also be, at the same time, the “child” who “will be born to us?
The answer lays before us, in the two titles given between “Child” and “Eternal Father.”
I invite you to behold the miraculous unfolding of our God’s love for us in this way. Our “Eternal Father” desired to be close to us, so close in fact that He would actually become our “Wonderful Counselor.” So, Because He is “Mighty God,” He decided to best come to us in the form of a gift, of a “child” who was “born to us,” a “son” who has been “given to us.”
This was how God chose to close the gap between mankind and Himself. This is how our “Eternal Father” decided to best become our “Wonderful Counselor;” through the power of “Mighty God” becoming a “child,” a son Who has been “born to us” and “given to us.”
This can only mean that the Father and the Son are one.
This is the miracle of God’s love, revealed to us so that we may know Him, closely, intimately, even within us.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, declared of Himself, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30), and He also prayed, for us, that this same state of oneness would exist between us and Him, even as it presently exists between Father and Son. Jesus prayed for us “that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they may also be in us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me” (John 17:21).
It is clear from this prayer of our Lord that, in order for this world to know that the Father and Son are one, God’s intention for us is that we, His beloved children, will step into our own oneness with Father and Son, “so that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
Jesus Christ’s word and will is that we will also be one with each other, by being one in our Lord, so “that the world will believe that You sent Me.”
Let us say yes to this. Let us gratefully “see how great a love our Father has” for us (1st John 3:1), that He has come to us as the “son” so we may know Him and His wonderful counsel, by becoming one with Him even as Father and Son are one.
This is all for our own maximum sensing of God’s blessing in our lives, for Jesus continued in His prayer, saying, “the glory which You have given Me, I have given to them, that they may be one, just as we are one; I in them and you in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me” (John 17:22-23).
By yielding to God’s loving call for us to become and remain one with Him, even as Father and Son have expressed their love to us by being one, God’s glory is released and realized graciously within us so we may actually become the continuing present day fulfillment of this great prophecy from Isaiah, of our Eternal Father’s love for mankind, so that all would come to know His son, our “Mighty God,” as their own “Wonderful Counselor.” Hallelujah!
