Let Us Honor Our High Priest
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“No one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was. So also, Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You’; just as He says also in another passage, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek’”
Hebrews 5:4-6 (with quotes from Psalm 2:7 & Psalm 110:4)
In yet another reference to Psalm 110 within the book of Hebrews, the writer this time was declaring that just as God called, through Moses, to Aaron to make him High Priest of the Old Covenant according to the order of Levi, so also did God call, prophetically with an “oath” through David in Psalm 110, to anoint Jesus, His “Son,” as High Priest of a New Covenant “according to the order of Melchizadek.”
It is just as the writer of Hebrews declared in Chapter 7, “For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also” (verse 12).The beauty of our Lord Jesus seen here is that He did not make a “power-grab” for glory. Not at all. Jesus completely and humbly submitted His life to God His Father, and then laid His sinless life down at Calvary completely in order to fulfill the Old Covenant. Through our Savior’s spotless sacrificial blood and through His resurrection from the dead He has established, as both our “Lord” and “priest forever” (Psalm 110:1&4), a New Covenant through which we are saved and by which we now serve our great High priest Jesus!
Jesus did not take “the honor to Himself.” God, our Father, has given Jesus all honor and glory.
Likewise, let us give Jesus all the honor and glory due to Him for the great things He has done. This passage from Hebrews makes clear that the “Lord” and “priest forever” of Psalm 110 is the “Son” of Psalm 2, which is our Lord, Savior, and High Priest, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Behold how humble, devoted, and completely submitted to Abba Father our great Lord was then so that He may be our great resurrected and indwelling Lord now. Bless His holy Name forever!
Yes Lord Jesus, we praise You our great “Lord” and “Priest forever.” God has honored You and glorified You, and now we, as the sheep of Your pasture, we honor You and we glorify You our great, great, loving, gracious, Savior, Lord, and High Priest forever. Thank You Jesus that we now live in Your new law, Your New Covenant, as Your Own royal priesthood! We bless Your holy name, now and forever!
Hallelujah!
