God Is Calling  Us To Know Him Through Ministering To The Lord

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:

“Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord yet been revealed to him. So the Lord called Samuel again for the third time.”

1 Samuel 3:7-8

Why was God calling Samuel?

We know God wanted to speak to Samuel, but why to Samuel?

The one singular distinguishing element we see highlighted and shining about Samuel in these Scriptures is that He ministered to the Lord (1 Samuel 1:28, 2:11, 2:18, 3:1).

In the garden of Eden, “the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, ‘Where are you?’” (Genesis 3:9).

In the book of Exodus, after God had delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt, Moses went up to meet with the Lord on the mountain. God’s call through Moses to His people concluded with these words, “‘you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel” (Exodus 19:6).

So now here was Samuel, actually ministering to the Lord, being faithful to God’s call in Exodus to all the sons of Israel, and Samuel was even laying down in the temple at night, so God never had to call out “Where are you” as He did with Adam in Genesis.

For the one who truly cares to know, and to respond to God’s call, to all of His children, this has been His call from the beginning; that we would draw near to Him, to be His dedicated kingdom of priests, ministering to the Lord in actual worship, adoration, and time spent with Him in His presence.

It is in this state, of priesthood and fellowship, obeying the heart of God’s often expressed will and call to all of His people, that we truly do get to know God and to understand the revelation of His word.

Do we really think we could receive revelation and knowledge of God in any other way, honestly? Just by reading the Bible without any personal input in His presence?

Obviously, it seems to me, God is looking, at all times, for people whose hearts are truly toward Him, who hear and respond to the call, for us to be, in Jesus Christ’ name, “a kingdom and priests to our God” (Revelation 5: 10).

God is calling each of us, just like He called Samuel.

Let us, as children of God, rise up in our priesthood and minister to the Lord, in this day and age, that we may truly honor and know Him, our one and only true God, and receive the revelation of His word.

Yes, bless your Lord today by responding to His call and stepping into His presence as His minister. Hallelujah!
