Being A Dwelling For Our Lord
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“The Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands; as the prophet says: ‘Heaven is My throne, and earth is the footstool of My feet; what kind of house will you build for Me?’ says the Lord, ‘or what place is there for My repose? Was it not My hand which made all these things?’”
Acts 7:48-50 / Isaiah 66:1-2
The disciple Stephen spoke these words shortly before being stoned to death by a hostile crowd, as he was explaining the difference between the Old Covenant given through Moses and the New Covenant now fully realized for us in Jesus Christ.
It was exactly as God had spoken through the prophet Isaiah, whom Stephen quoted here. Stephen’s conclusion was that God would rather take His repose in a building made with His Own hands, instead of living in a building to contain Him made by man.
“The Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands,” Stephen said, which leads us to recognize, and understand, that God does dwell in “houses” (take note of the plural), made by His Own hands.
Which brings us directly to... us, today, God’s children, His Own temple, in whom our Lord dwells and has His repose. You and I - we are the building, the temple of God in this day, the “houses” of God.
This is what God has always wanted. He said so through Isaiah, confirmed His word through Stephen, and now, because of Jesus Christ, you and I have the great privilege of being a dwelling for our Lord.
Katapousis is the Greek word used for “repose” in this verse and it means “rest.” I invite you today to rest in your Lord Who is at rest in you.
What sweet fellowship! You have become God’s temple (2 Corinthians 6:16), made by His Own hand, a new creation in Jesus Christ, so you may truly live in the joy of God dwelling and resting in you today.
Yes, bless your Lord in His presence for you have become the place “for My repose.” Praise His holy name while He rests in you this day!
Hallelujah!
