About Being Delighted In The Lord

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:

“David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouting and the sound of the trumpet”

2 Samuel 6:14-15

David had been as anointed king of Israel by Samuel, but his heart was always towards ministering to the Lord as a priest, which was well expressed in his words, “One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple” (Psalm 27:4).

When David danced before the Lord, wearing the humble linen ephod of a priest, he was living out the truth of his own words which he wrote, saying, “Delight thyself in the Lord; and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

The desire of David’s heart was for the Lord, Himself, and so he danced, being delighted in the Lord his God, Who was giving him the desires of his heart, which as we have seen, was to be in the house of God beholding His beauty.

Other people may have seen David dancing, and they may have wondered what was going on, but David was seeing the Lord, and the beauty of the Lord, and he was rejoicing.

When God is the desire of our heart, then we truly are delighted in the Lord.

We don’t delight ourselves in the Lord in order to get something else. That’s not how it works. When we are delighting ourselves in the Lord, it is because God, Himself, is the desire of our heart, and we realize He has given us Himself, and so our full delight is in Him.

It is in the act and heart attitude of our being delighted in our Lord, in real-time, that God is able to show us clearly that He, Himself, is the desire of our heart, and He has given Himself to us, fully, in Jesus Christ.

Let us delight in our Lord today, even as David did, for Jesus Christ is in us and He is beautiful to behold. Behold Him and delight in Him.
