Our Priestly Inheritance in Jesus Christ
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup”
Psalm 16:5
In this verse, from this beautiful 16th Psalm, David revealed that he had the true and simple heart of a priest unto God.
The Lord had spoken to Aaron, concerning the priestly tribe of Levi, saying, “You shall have no inheritance in their land nor own any portion among them; I am your portion and your inheritance” (Numbers 18:20).
In the book of Joshua it is recorded, “But to the tribe of Levi, Moses did not give an inheritance; the Lord, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as He had promised to them” (Joshua 13:33).
Later on in the Old Testament, God spoke this same blessed truth to His faithful priests of the inner court, the sons of Zadok, saying “And it shall be in regard to an inheritance for them, that I am their inheritance; and you shall give them no possession in Israel - I am their possession” (Ezekiel 44:28).
And for us, God’s present day “royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9), we have become the recipients of this same blessed truth, being told “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance” (Ephesians 1:11).
The earmark of a true priest unto God is this, that we consider and receive the blessed truth that our Lord, Himself, is “the portion of my inheritance and my cup.” We aren’t looking for things. We are looking to our Lord, Himself, with humility, gratitude, and devotion, entering His presence to minister to Him, Who is our portion, and our cup of fullness and life, abundantly now and forever.
Yes, blessed priests of God, the Lord is our portion, our inheritance, and our cup.
We are so blessed and favored of God, in fact, that “having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance” (Ephesians 1:13), meaning that our inheritance is alive within us even now.
The blessed reality of God’s Holy Spirit indwelling us now is a testimony from our Abba Father to us that He indeed is our forever inheritance!
Bless His holy name for His forever presence. Yes beloved child of God, minister to your Lord today and say, with the heart of David, “The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup.” Let us not look to things as our inheritance. Rather let us gloriously behold the One Who is our inheritance! Thank You Lord Jesus. Hallelujah!
