Watching For Him Is Watching Out For His People
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“I will stand on my guard post and station myself on the rampart; and I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me”
Habakkuk 2:1
Here is one hugely significant truth about our New Covenant priesthood to God. It is this: When we, the priests of God, minister to our Lord in real time, to “keep watch to see what He will speak to me,” we are at that moment, in God’s sight, standing at our “guard post” and stationing ourselves “on the rampart.”
In other words, God sees our ministry to Him in a dual way, as not only beholding and worshiping Him in spirit and in truth as His declared royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9), but also, by our true and pure attendance to our God, always desiring the pure truth of His Word, His Spirit, His Presence, His purpose, we actually become His watchman on the walls of His city, which is the meaning of our being stationed on the rampart, looking out for God’s people even as we look up to our God!
As watchmen, we are watching the Lord, attending to His word and His wisdom, and we are truly looking out for the entire body of Christ.
By accepting the truth of our New Covenant Salvation in Christ our Lord, and by accepting the truth of our New Covenant identity as His priesthood, in Christ our High Priest, we become perfectly fitted into God’s true purpose for us; to not only know Him and “proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9), but also to protect the body of Christ from every falsehood attack of Satan that would come against “the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3).
Here is some quick watchman wisdom and truth of our Lord: “How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who announces peace and brings good news of happiness, who announces salvation, and says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’ Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices, they shout joyfully together; for they will see with their own eyes when the Lord restores Zion. Break forth, shout joyfully together” (Isaiah 52:7-9). See what I mean? By ministering to our Lord as His priesthood, we become His “watchmen,” beholding Him while protecting His people.
The Lord, through Jeremiah, after declaring “I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness,” (Jeremiah 31:3), further stated, “For there will be a day when watchmen on the hills of Ephraim will call out, ‘Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God” (Vs. 6). As priests unto our Lord Jesus Christ we are greatly privileged to proclaim the excellencies of Him, of His “everlasting love,” and we are also greatly privileged to call all of God’s people to the Lord Himself in love and devotion. This is the truest, the purest, and the best possible protection for the entire body of Christ, now and always.
In Ezekiel, God said to him, “Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman to the house of Israel, whenever you hear a word from my mouth, warn them from me” (3:17). He further stated “But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned...Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them a warning from Me” (33:6-7).
These verses from Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel clearly reveal to us our God’s desire for His prophets and priests to diligently attend to Him and His word, not only for His glory and our blessing, but also for His purity and wisdom in all of His people to be protected from falsehood and lies through, ultimately, themselves entering into and being protectively wrapped up in their New Covenant priesthood to God.
This may be a lot to take in at one time, however this is simply the truth. By loving God purely as His priesthood we are protected from every falsehood, and we are given a loving unction to be protective over the entire body of Christ, for the sole jealous Ownership of Jesus Christ. For, after all, the entire body of Christ does belong to Jesus Christ. Yes?
Dear beloved, don’t be overwhelmed by this truth. Simply minister to God in His love today, as usual, being aware of this blessed dual aspect of our priesthood. Yes, “I will stand on my guard post and station myself on the rampart; and I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me.” Hallelujah!
