He Feeds Us Himself

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:

He Feeds Us Himself

“I will set over them one shepherd, My servant David, and he will feed them; he will feed them himself and be their shepherd”

Ezekiel 34:23

This prophetic word from God, through the prophet Ezekiel, came hundreds of years after King David had died.

God was looking ahead and speaking of Jesus, our Savior, our Good Shepherd, Who “will feed them himself.”

This word has two meanings.

The first, perhaps more obvious meaning, is that Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, feeds us.

As we saw yesterday, we are “the sheep of His hand” (Psalm 95:7). If we will only come to Jesus Christ for our daily bread and living water, He will always gladly hand feed us, in His presence, for He is the very best Shepherd we could ever hope to be shepherded by.

The second, deeper meaning, is the more literal truth expressed in “he will feed them himself.”

Our Savior said, “unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves” (John 6:53).

Praise God, for our Good Shepherd does hand feed us, showing us His desire to personally and intimately care for us in our daily life with Him. And praise God,

He has made this possible because our Good Shepherd has fed, and continues to feed, us “Himself.”

In love Jesus laid His life down, shedding His blood for our sins, showing us His ultimate sacrifice to God on our behalf and His complete commitment to us, the sheep of His pasture.

You see, not only does our Good Shepherd hand feed us, but He Himself is the food we eat. He is our salvation. He is our life. He is our daily bread of life.

This state of oneness, of union, in this revelation and understanding, can only make us praise God with eternal humility, gratitude, and joy. Look at this perfect, continual, unbroken fellowship we are offered with our Good Shepherd, for He feeds us and He is the food we eat.

Oh thank you Lord that You feed me Yourself. I am staying with You, my Good Shepherd, my Savior Jesus. Hallelujah!
