“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me”
Psalm 23:4
Praise God, the more we minister to the Lord the more we are graced to be aware of our Lord, within us, and over all things.
David was so tuned in to God’s presence that he could write these words and truly mean them. The nearness and presence of God is everything to us in this life.
God is “with” us and in us right now.
In a way, our whole Christian experience in this life is like a kind of our own walking “through the valley of the shadow of death.” So, let us not fear evil. Let us instead behold our Lord, as David did; our Lord Immanuel, God with us, Christ in us. Yes, “greater is He Who is in you” as John wrote (1 John 4: 4).
Let us allow God’s rod and staff to comfort us, the rod and staff of His power, direction, protection, and resurrection life (like Aaron’s budded rod) given to us in Jesus Christ.
As priests unto God we know we are now the temple of His abiding presence, blessed to minister to our God. Christ is with us always, even as He promised (Matthew 28: 20). Invoking the presence of Christ, “for You are with me,” is the perfect way for us to eliminate any and all fears, for just as John wrote, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear” (1 John 4: 18). Thank You God!
Yes, let us fix “our eyes upon Jesus” today, as the writer of Hebrews exhorts us (Ch 12: 2), so we, too, may joyfully exclaim like David did, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
Thank You Jesus for making this our every day truth and reality in You Yourself. Thank You for giving us Your Own Personal “comfort” even if we are walking in “the valley of the shadow of death.” We fear no evil for You are with us and we worship You and give You all the praise. Hallelujah!
