Expressing God’s Love To His Covenant People
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“But to which of the angels has He ever said, ‘Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet?”
Hebrews 1:13 (Psalm 110:1)
Praise our amazing Lord God, there is only One Whom our Father in heaven invites to “Sit at My right hand,” and that is Jesus Christ our risen Savior, Lord, and High Priest.
As we continue to look at Psalm 110 and it’s amazing prophetic fulfillment in Jesus Christ, Who is both our “Lord” (Psalm 110:1) and our “priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek” (Psalm 110:4, Hebrews 4:14-5:10, 6:17-10:25), we can appreciate more and more all that Jesus Christ has accomplished for us and Who He has become to us through His perfect obedience to His Abba Father in His fulfillment of psalm 110.
This is a message of hope for all people, and especially to the house of Israel, for we see a strong thread of God’s love for His people, stretching from Genesis with Melchizadek, through the Psalms with David, and then into fulfillment in Yeshua. Because Jesus Christ has conquered death through His sinless blood of the New Covenant (see Hebrews 13:20), God’s Old Testament promise of an eternal priesthood remains true today and God’s promise to David, of His line of kingship never ending, is also true today “for it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah” (Hebrews 7:4).
We have seen: Genesis 14 with Melchizadek, the prophecies of Messiah as resurrected King and Priest in Psalm 110, Jesus claiming Psalm 110 to Himself (Matthew 22:41-46, Mark 12:35-37), Peter declaring on the day of Pentecost that Psalm 110 was about Jesus’ resurrection (Acts 2:29-36), and now the in-depth exposition of all these things is in a New Testament book called Hebrews. Hebrews, specifically written to God’s Old Covenant children, urges all to see, receive, and continue in the truth of our risen Messiah.
I suppose Jesus could have just shown up and declared Himself as King and Priest. But how much more beautiful is this way, of God expressing through the whole of His word, through prophecy and through His Own heart, His desire for all people to know Him, and then to bring forth Jesus, born of a virgin, Who lives perfectly, sinlessly, lovingly, and Who fulfills all these prophecies, and Who is raised as “Lord” and “Priest forever,” to Whom the Father has said, “Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”
This whole tremendous prophetic thread which culminates in fulfillment in Jesus Christ, is nothing less than God taking the time to express His great love for mankind in a way that should truly convince us of the Person of His Son, our King and High Priest, Jesus.
Bless and praise God today for all that He has done for us in His Son. Bless and praise God today also for all the care He has taken to communicate the truth of His Son prophetically throughout the entire Old Testament to His covenant people, Israel. Let us also bless and praise our God within this great light of all that Jesus has become to us as both our “Lord” and “priest forever.” Hallelujah!
