How To Let Go Of The Old
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come”
2 Corinthians 5:17
Praise God! In Christ our Savior we have become a new creation and, as such, the old things have passed away and new things have come!
Yes let us praise God for this great truth every day and, in so doing, we will constantly remind ourselves that, indeed, the old things have truly passed away, new things have come, and continue to come to us, through Jesus our indwelling resurrected Lord.
It is a fair question if someone asks, “Well, if the old things have passed away, then why do they still feel like they are hanging around me?”
The simple remedy for this situation, I believe, is in the act of our accepting, realizing, and embracing the “new things” that God has given us. Without our active awareness of our “new things” then all we are left with is the memory of the old things, and that’s why it can appear to feel as if they are still hanging around.
Here is what the apostle Paul recommends for us in this regard, to do just as He did; “One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians 3: 13).
How to let go of the old? Reach forward to the new!
You are a “new creature” in Christ. It is your God given birth right to receive and live in the new things that have come to you in Christ.
As this year comes to a close, it is a perfect time for you to let go of the old, see yourself as a new creation, and embrace the glorious new things that have come to you, and are continuing to come to you, in Jesus’ name. In this coming new year, determine to be the new you, and receive your new things! Hallelujah!
