Zadok - Part 7 - Solomon Makes Zadok The New High Priest

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:

Zadok - Part 7 - Solomon Makes Zadok The New High Priest

“The king appointed Benaiah the son of Jehoiada over the army in his [Joab’s] place, and the king appointed Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar”

1 Kings 2:35

Zadok’s never failing loyalty to his holy call as a priest to God, accompanied by his loyalty to both king and covenant, continued to bless and reward his life, just as our own ministering to our Lord. Jesus as priests of a new covenant in our King continues to bless and favor our lives in His presence and anointing!

Now, through this latest act of courage and loyalty, in the face of yet another rebellion, this time from David’s son, Adonijah, Zadok was given the highest favor a priest could have been granted, that of being made high priest, the one who was divinely blessed of God to enter the Holy of Holies once a year on the day of atonement.

What a unique and divine favor Solomon bestowed upon Zadok, in return for His great, consistent, loyalty to David and now to Solomon himself, God’s anointed kings.

Abiathar, although he had remained loyal to David during Absalom’s rebellion, had unfortunately defected from David to Adonijah in this latest rebellion. Solomon, recognizing Abiathar’s former loyalty, did not have the priest killed, but instead exiled him to his own field, “so Solomon dismissed Abiathar from being priest to the Lord” (1 Kings 2:27).

So, who would Solomon choose to be the new high priest? Solomon chose the one man who never wavered, who was never swayed by pressure or threat or promise of power and wealth, the one man who, time and time again, proved himself to be utterly loyal to God’s anointed king, covenant and priesthood. Of course Solomon chose and “appointed Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar.”

Zadok’s loyalty to king, covenant, and priesthood ultimately and literally led him into the holy of holies, into the very presence of God Himself!

What an amazing outcome to one man’s faithful commitment to God’s anointing. It all began with Zadok recognizing and following Samuel’s anointing of David as king, joining David in the wilderness even while king Saul was trying to kill David, and look where his loyalty to the anointing brought him- into the presence of God Himself!

Beloved child of God, be faithful today, and every day, to God’s anointed One, our King and High Priest of a New Covenant, Jesus Christ. Follow and be loyal to God’s anointing now and the anointing will always lead you into even greater blessings in our God! Bless His holy name! Hallelujah!
