We Have Such a High Priest
“Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in the heavens”
Hebrews 8:1
I love that, after writing about Jesus our High Priest since chapter 2, the author of Hebrews states in chapter eight, “now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest.”
Please believe me when I say that, for our own daily benefit, we always need to remind ourselves, and to gently remind all of our Christian brothers and sisters, that this Jesus Whom we talk about - He is here now. He is real now. He is indwelling us now. We need to abide in Him now. He is the head of His body now. He is our High Priest now. We need to know Him and draw near to Him as our High Priest now.
God has a specific purpose for us right now, in the body of Christ, that we all need to be fully awake to and aware of. God’s will for His true church is to build us up, in Him, “being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood” (1st Peter 2:5). God’s clearly stated will is for the entire body of Christ to be yielded and transformed into His Own “holy priesthood.”
Otherwise, what are we really taking about and why are we even talking, if we don’t believe ourselves that Jesus Christ is our Savior, Lord, Head, Shepherd, and High Priest right now?
The main point the writer of Hebrews wanted his readers to see is that God really is Who he says He is.
This requires a response on our part.
And, my goodness, responding should not be difficult at all. For when we know our Savior, and we know Him as Lord, Head, Shepherd, King, and High Priest - we are supremely blessed.
Knowing Jesus Christ this way, in His fullness, is like seeing a giant flashing neon lit sign, saying“welcome Beloved Child Of God” over the front door to the presence of God, every time you enter as His priest.
Every single aspect of our Lord Jesus Christ, when understood, ministers life, love, blessing, and His eternal purpose to each one of us.
And yes there is a purpose to our knowing Jesus Christ as our High Priest, for us personally and for the welfare, blessing and obedience of the body of Christ. And there is a mighty purpose, yet to be fulfilled in this world, in our collective and powerful priesthood, through Christ, to God our Father.
Thy will be done in us Lord, for Your true and eternal glory! Hallelujah!
