The Importance Of Ministering As A Priest
Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:
“I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God, to be a minister of Jesus Christ to the gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God”
Romans 15:15-16
Why is it so important, and imperative, that we minister “as a priest the gospel of God?”
For one thing, a priest is a mediator, between God and people.
A priest of God profoundly desires to see people reconciled with God. This is our goal. This is a much needed added dimension of understanding for us as we proclaim the gospel.
We are not merely telling people the gospel, and “letting the chips fall where they may,” as some say. When we are “ministering as a priest the gospel of God,” we are sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with the spirit of a priest, with the profound priestly desire to see people reconciled with God.
This is different than merely telling somebody the gospel.
A faithful priest loves God and loves people, for God, Whom we love, Himself “so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
The apostle Paul wrote that God has made us new creations in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5: 17) and, as such, He “gave us the ministry of reconciliation” (vs 18). “He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (vs 19-20).
“Ministering as a priest the gospel of God” is about the sacred message, and also about the sacred nature of the messenger. It is about spirit and truth coming together in Christ our High Priest, that we may proclaim Him more faithfully and accurately, with the result that many more will know Him, being reconciled to God.
Praise God, for when you are “ministering as a priest the gospel of God,” you are always remembering how Christ has reconciled you to Him, so that you may now go forth in this day, in His spirit, and with His message, ministering reconciliation to this world in Jesus Name. Yes, minister as a priest to God in His presence today and then go forth ministering the gospel as a priest to this world. We are blessed! Hallelujah!
