Zadok – Part 1 - Always Loyal To God’s Anointed King And Priesthood

Zadok – Part 1 - Always Loyal To God’s Anointed King And Priesthood

“But the Levitical priests, the sons of Zadok, who kept charge of My sanctuary when the sons of Israel went astray from Me, shall come near to Me to minister to Me; and they shall stand before Me”

Ezekiel 44:15

From this portion of Ezekiel, it appears that the only priestly family from the entire Levitical priesthood who remained loyal to God, when “the sons of Israel went astray from Me,” was “the sons of Zadok.”

This is not surprising to me, for when we trace the roots of this family back to Zadok himself, what we see is a never failing testimony of one man’s utterly loyal faithfulness to God’s anointed king and priesthood throughout his life. Zadok represents the person who is completely faithful to God’s great dual oath which we have been looking at for month’s now in Psalm 110, and have also seen in the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel; which says, “The Lord says to my Lord: ‘Sit at My right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for Your feet,’” and “The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek’” (Psalm 110:1&4).

For us, as God’s present day kingdom and priesthood, let us glean from Zadok’s life and apply this same loyal faithfulness to God’s anointing into our lives, towards our forever anointed King and High Priest, Jesus Christ.

Zadok’s first appearance in scripture is in 1st Chronicles, as part of a group of 4,600 priestly Levites “who came to David at Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the Lord” (1 Chronicles 12:23,26), specifically mentioned in these words; “Also Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father’s house twenty two captains” (verse 28). The prophet Samuel had anointed David as king of Israel, replacing Saul, and Zadok joined himself as a priest to David, even during the time when Saul was trying to kill David.

As a priest, Zadok simply and purely followed, and was loyal to, God’s anointing.

You and I have been born again and have been made a kingdom and priests to God (Revelation 1:5-6) through the new covenant blood of our Savior, so let us always follow and be loyal to God’s anointing upon His anointed One, Jesus our Christ, Who began His public ministry by declaring of Himself, from the prophet Isaiah, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me” (Luke 4:18). The author of Hebrews quoted the following prophetic Old Testament scripture to Jesus, writing, “God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above your companions (Hebrews 1:9, Psalm 45:7).

The family of Zadok represents rock solid faithfulness and allegiance to God’s anointed king and anointed priesthood. Let us be blessed this day to receive and follow God’s anointed King and High Priest forever, Jesus our Lord, as His disciples and as his faithful priests. Bless His holy name! Hallelujah!
