Fixing Our Eyes

Today's Word of Encouragement from Wayne:

Fixing Our Eyes

"Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

Hebrews 12:1-2

If our eyes are not "fixed" upon Jesus, then we have a "broken" and distracted view. The only way to "fix" our view is to "fix" our eyes on Jesus. When our eyes are solely and completely "fixed" upon our Lord and High Priest Jesus, then our spiritual vision is truly "fixed" in every way. It takes "endurance" to keep our eyes "fixed" upon Jesus. But on the other hand, there is no better place of spiritual health, joy and holiness for us to keep our eyes "fixed" upon, than to be always "fixing our eyes on Jesus."

Jesus is our joy. His word is our joy. His presence is our joy. Ministering to our Lord and High Priest as His Own "royal priesthood" (1st Peter 2:9) is "joy inexpressible and full of glory" (1st Peter 1:8). Staying in the yoke with Jesus and learning of Him (Matthew 11:29) is total joy. Staying as a sheep near enough to our Shepherd that we may always hear His voice (John 10:27-28) is total joy. To me, "fixing" my eyes on Jesus is the very thing I want to do, and have learned to do, and joyfully continue to do - this is my path of life abundant in Christ. Being a disciple, following and serving Jesus, is total joy, for "where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor Him" (John 12: 26). These are just some of the qualities of our Lord and High Priest which we are privileged to progressively realize and grow in the benefits of, as we keep our eyes "fixed" on Jesus.

We are all running in this race of life and we all need to keep our eyes on the finish line, so "let us run with endurance the race that is set before, fixing our eyes on Jesus." Jesus has sat down in victory at His finish line and He is bidding us to keep our eyes "fixed" upon Him as we run our race. You know, if we keep our eyes "fixed" upon Jesus as we run our race, then this means we are always running towards Him, and always getting closer to Him, and always developing a clearer view of Christ our Lord and High Priest. Isn’t this beautiful? Isn’t He beautiful? In this way we are always obeying His great word and invitation "Come to Me" (Matthew 11:28).

Yes "fix" your eyes upon Jesus today, and keep them "fixed" upon Him, and your view will never be "broken." Praise God because He "fixed" us real good when He told us to "fix" our eyes upon Jesus. Hallelujah!
