"This Jesus"

Today's Word of Encouragement from Wayne:

"This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses. Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet."’ Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ - this Jesus"

Acts 2:32-36, Psalm 110:1

Hallelujah, our God reigns! Let us praise our Savior, Jesus Christ, Who has overcome death, and is now seated at the right hand of our Father, as our King and High Priest. Yesterday we saw an account where Jesus ascribed Psalm 110 to Himself; this prophetic psalm of David about a coming Messiah Who would be both King and High Priest (Matthew 22:41-14, Mark 12:35-37). Today we see Peter, on the day of Pentecost, declaring that Psalm 110 also prophesied the resurrection of Jesus ("Sit at My right hand"), Who has now become, Just as David prophesied "in the Spirit" (Matthew 22:43), "both Lord and Christ."

I will be returning to the letter of Hebrews tomorrow for more in-depth teaching of Jesus Christ, our resurrected King and High Priest of a New Covenant. But I have wanted to show you these Scriptures also so we may all appreciate the importance of Psalm 110 in direct relation to Jesus Christ. In Genesis 14 we have seen Melchizadek, who was both King of Salem (which means "peace") and priest of God Most High, carrying wine and bread, prefiguring communion and the body and blood of Christ.

Then, in Psalm 110, the Lord declared through David the prophetic word of a future King of Peace and Priest of God "according to the order of Melchizadek." Then, in the Gospels, we saw Jesus actually quoting Psalm 110 in reference to Himself. Then, in the book of Acts, on the day of Pentecost, Peter also quotes Psalm 110 about our resurrected "Lord and Christ." Then, in the book of Hebrews, we have been seeing that Psalm 110, verses 1& 4, are explained at length concerning Jesus Who, in this present moment, is both King (Psalm 110:1) and High Priest (Psalm 110:4).

What a marvelous portrait of our loving Savior Psalm 110 provides, stretching throughout Scripture, beginning in Genesis, revealing God’s ultimate remedy for sin and separation through His Own Son, our "Lord and Christ." Even way back in Genesis the seed was first planted, of our resurrected King and High Priest Who, through His Own sacrificial blood and broken body, would redeem us through a New Covenant. Thank You Lord for loving us so much.

Thank You Lord for showing us, throughout Your holy Word, our King and High Priest. I praise You Jesus, my King and High Priest. I pray Your whole church will recognize, know, and honor You exactly as You are. You are worthy of all our praise, devotion, and obedience, Lord God. Amen. My brothers and sisters, thank God for "this Jesus." Hallelujah!
