Delighting Yourself In The Everlasting Covenant of Christ

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne:

“Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good and delight yourself in abundance. Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you according to the faithful mercies shown to David”

Isaiah 55:2-3

The apostle Paul quoted this text from Isaiah, in support of Jesus, when he spoke in the synagogue at Pisidian Antioch (Acts 13). Paul said, “We preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers, that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, ‘You are My Son; today I have begotten You.’ As for the fact that He raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘I WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY AND SURE BLESSINGS OF DAVID.’” (Acts 13: 32-34).

In our study of Psalm 110 we have seen, extensively, how God spoke through David of a future “Lord” and “priest forever” (Psalm 110: 1&4), Whom the New Testament (New Covenant) has declared over and over to be Jesus, our risen Lord and High Priest of a “better covenant” (Hebrews 7:22, 8:6).

So, in this beautiful, forward looking, text from Isaiah, we see God entreating people to “come to the waters,” to “listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good and delight yourself in abundance,” and to “listen, that you may live.” In order for us to understand God’s glorious New and “everlasting covenant,” we must Come to the waters, and drink the living waters of Jesus Christ. We must “listen carefully” to God and His complete plan of “an everlasting covenant” that is spoken of and taught in depth throughout the New testament. We absolutely need to “Listen, that you may live.” To “eat what is good” is for us to eat, digest, and live in God’s everlasting covenant, completely realized in Jesus Christ. It is as John wrote, “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ” (John 1: 17).

It is here, within the truth of the New Covenant, that we discover “what is good” so that one may truly “delight yourself in abundance.”

The Lord has a word for all those who are not responding to the “everlasting covenant” which is, “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good and delight yourself in abundance. Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live.” Today many are walking, they suppose, religiously, when actually they are in a rut of “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2nd Timothy 3:7). They are spending money, time, and life for “what is not bread.” Jesus Christ is our truth, our way, and our life (John 14: 6). He is our bread of life. He is our “everlasting covenant.” We need to listen carefully to Him and to understand Him.

Beloved child of God and priest of God, “listen carefully,” every day, to all that Scripture tells you of Jesus Christ. Drink in His living waters. Eat what is good and delight yourself in the abundance of God, provided for you forever in Christ our Savior through His “everlasting covenant.” Yes, “come to the waters” today and thank your God for blessing you with His “everlasting covenant.” Hallelujah!
