“What Do You Think About The Christ, Whose Son Is He?”
Today’s Word of Encouragement from Wayne:
"Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question: "What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They said to Him, "The son of David." He said to them, "Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying, ‘The Lord said to My Lord, "Sit at My right hand, until I put Your enemies beneath Your feet"’? "If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?" No one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him another question"
Matthew 22:41-46, Psalm 110:1
It is absolutely powerful and significant to see Jesus directly quoting this prophetic passage from Psalm 110, acknowledging this Psalm is about "the Christ," and referencing this to Himself, the true “Son” of God. Jesus was openly declaring to the Pharisees that He was the Christ, the prophesied One whom David “in the Spirit” wrote about. We have primarily, up to this point, been looking at the portion of Psalm 110 which says, "The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind, ‘You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek’" (Psalm 110:4). Jesus Christ, as we have been gloriously seeing in the book of Hebrews, is our forever High Priest of His New Covenant, directly fulfilling this Psalm. And, we are His New Covenant people and priesthood (1st Peter 2:5-9).
It is important for us to recognize that Jesus openly, and on more than one occasion (see Mark 12:35-37), applied this Psalm to Himself. Peter quoted Psalm 110 on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:33-36), saying it was about our resurrected Savior. Jesus Christ is the “Lord” and the “priest forever” that God, through David, prophesied of in Psalm 110. Let us confess this truth of Christ our present “Lord” and “High Priest” to the entire body of Christ. How many people actually know of and glorify God in this way?
Our Lord Jesus is worthy of all praise and glory, for ALL He has accomplished, in obedience to God and in love towards us, in order to become our King and High Priest. A true confession and understanding of this great, great prophetic truth should result in our individual and corporate, right now, yielding to our “Lord” and our ministering to our “High Priest” as His Own dedicated “Royal Priesthood” (1st Peter 2:9).
Let us live this truth in our Lord and let us declare this truth to His church, that the lights may come fully up, in our King and High Priest, resurrected and indwelling, Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!
