Today's Word of Encouragement from Wayne:
"He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high."
Praise God, the more we look at this great prophecy of Psalm 110, of a coming Messiah Who would be both King and High Priest, the more we realize the increasing implications and inspiring fullness of this prophecy!
Jesus Christ is this Messiah. He is our King and our "priest forever according to the order of Melchizadek" (Psalm 110:4), right now and forever. Jesus Christ, right now, "is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature." Yes, let us look, lovingly, into our Lord Jesus for His radiance and for God’s glory and for the "exact representation" of God’s nature to us and in us.
Peter declared on the day of Pentecost that Psalm 110 also prophesied the resurrection of Jesus Christ, saying, "For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to My Lord, sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.’ Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ - this Jesus" (Acts 2:34-36, Psalm 110:1).
So in this third verse of the opening chapter of the book of Hebrews, we are blessed to see yet another awesome fulfilment, so personal for us, foretold in Psalm 110. "When He had made purification from sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high." Yes, the phrase God spoke, "Sit at My right hand" (Psalm 110:1), does mean all of these things; that our Messiah is: King, Priest, resurrected, and God ("The Lord said to My Lord"). But now we see that Messiah was able to sit at God’s right hand only after making "purification of sins." It is only through the perfect, sinless, blood of our Savior, "The New Covenant in My blood" (Luke 22:20), shed for our sins and for the sins of the world, that Jesus was able to be raised from the dead; "The God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord" (Hebrews 13:20). So this means that all of the greatness in Psalm 110's prophecy, of a Messiah Who would be King, Priest, and resurrected God, could only come to pass, and be complete, through the perfect atoning New Covenant blood of our Savior, which indeed has paid for our sins and has made us pure as born anew children of God. THEN Jesus sat down! After making "purification from sins, He sat down at the right hand" of God.
What an awesome and faithful love, for His glorious Heavenly Father, and for us, lost sinners, our Lord Jesus has demonstrated in fulfilling ALL that is contained in this prophecy from Psalm 110. Jesus lived His life faithful and pure to God, faithful unto death, so He may present perfect New Covenant blood, in heaven, to His Father, the perfect blood of our salvation. Minister with love and gratitude to your High Priest, Jesus, and thank Him today for all He has done to make you new and pure before God. I will share with you more tomorrow, from Hebrews chapter 10, as to how Jesus exactly accomplished this for us. Hallelujah!
