Experiencing Renewal In God’s Presence

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. I will be glad and exult in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High” Psalm 9:1-2 Here is the basic premise of what we say in our ministering to the Lord. Just like David, we praise God “with all my heart” for Who He is and for what He has done. In future sharing from the Psalms, we will see that David would often list actual attributes of God, and the things God has done, as he praised God in His presence. I encourage you to minister to God today with this same simple and joyful attitude - with all your heart. Tell God of all His wonders. Be glad and exult i

A Word From David About Ministering To The Lord

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “But as for me, by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house, at Your holy temple I will bow in reverence for You. Let all who take refuge in You be glad, let them ever sing for joy; and may You shelter them, that those who love Your name may exult in You” Psalm 5:7&11 In this early Psalm of David’s, we see the heart of someone who not only practiced and understood ministering to the Lord, but who also desired for all to experience God in this way. Yes, today may “abundant lovingkindness” lead us all into “Your house,” “Your holy temple” O Lord. This is for us today because now, in the New Covenant of Jesus Christ, we have been made a prie

Receive The Anointing Which “Abides In You”

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “The Lord said, ‘ Arise, anoint him; for this is he.’ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward” 1 Samuel 16: 12-13 David was the one individual whom God had found, saying "This is he,"in all of His searching for “a man after His own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14). When Samuel anointed him, “the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David.” As new born children of God, we have been given the call of our priesthood (Revelation 1:5-6, 1Peter 2: 5-9), that we ourselves would be a people of God “after His own heart.” In his first letter, the apostle J

Man Looks At The Outward Appearance, But The Lord Looks At The Heart

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” 1 Samuel 16:7 This is what the Lord said to Samuel, after he had arrived at the house of Jesse, according to the God’s word to him, in order to anoint the next king of Israel. When Samuel first entered and saw Jesse’s son, Eliab, He thought, “surely the Lord’s anointed is before him” (1 Samuel 16: 7), which provoked God to speak these words about how He sees things differently, from the heart. Jesse proceeded to show off seven sons to Samuel, and none of these were God’s anointed. Jesse obviously thought his youngest son, David, was so out of the runn

Ministering To The Lord Is Being “A Man After My Heart”

Today's Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Your kingdom shall not endure. The Lord has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him as ruler over His people” 1 Samuel 13:14 These were the words of the Lord through Samuel to King Saul, who had “not kept the commandment of the Lord your God” (1 Samuel 13:13). David was the one whom God had found, who would soon be anointed king by Samuel (1 Samuel 16: 4-13). The apostle Paul, on his first missionary journey, commented upon this Scripture from 1st Samuel when he preached the gospel at Pisidian Antioch, saying, “He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found Davi

A Prophecy About Samuel, Jesus, and You!

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and he will walk before My anointed always” 1 Samuel 2:35 A prophet of God had spoken these words to Eli, shortly before the Lord called to Samuel in the temple at night. The first meaning of this prophecy, I believe, is about Samuel, who was faithful to God and who did, during his life, walk before God’s anointed kings, having been integral to God’s anointing of both Saul and David. The second meaning of this prophecy, I believe, is about our Savior, “Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession” (Hebrews 3:1), Who truly has done al

Ministering To The Lord Is Taking The Time To Truly Hear God

Today's Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Then the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’ The Lord said to Samuel, ‘Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.’” 1 Samuel 3: 10-11. God was telling little Samuel first, of a new thing that He was about to do, before He showed anyone else in all of Israel. Why? To me the big obvious conclusion is that Samuel, through ministering to the Lord, repeatedly showed God that he, in fact of practice, was the only one in Israel who was actually taking the time to truly hear God, for he was the only one drawing ne

God Is Calling - For Us To Know Him Through Ministering To The Lord

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord yet been revealed to him. So the Lord called Samuel again for the third time” 1 Samuel 3: 7-8 Why was God calling Samuel? We know God wanted to speak to Samuel, but why to Samuel? The one singular and distinguishing element we are shown about Samuel is that He ministered to the Lord (1 Samuel 1:28, 2:11, 2:18, 3:1). In the garden of Eden, “the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, ‘Where are you?’” (Genesis 3:9). In the book of Exodus, after God had delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt, Moses went up to the Lord because “The Lord God called to him from the mountain, s

Speak, Lord, For Your Servant Is Listening

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Then the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ And Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening’” 1 Samuel 3: 10 This is the fourth time that God called to Samuel as he was lying down in the temple at night. Each time God called, little Samuel got up and went to Eli, the elderly priest who, after the third time, discerned that God must be calling to Samuel. Eli told Samuel, “Go lie down, and it shall be if he calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening’” (1 Samuel 3: 9). Each time God called to Samuel, there was an apparent growing urgency, culminating on this fourth occasion with Go

God Reveals Himself To Us As We Minister To Him

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord yet been revealed to him. So the Lord called Samuel again for the third time” 1 Samuel 3: 7-8 “Samuel did not yet know the Lord,” but his mother, Hannah, had dedicated Samuel to God and had brought him up, in his three years, to be devoted to God. Look at how much God wanted to reveal Himself and speak to this small child who was “ministering to the Lord” (1 Samuel 3:1) with such devotion. This was the third time God called out to Samuel. Praise God, as blood washed children of our Father, through Jesus Christ, you and I do know our Lord. The true word of God, Jesus Christ, has been

Ministering To The Lord Is The Way To Hear From God

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord. And word from the Lord was rare in those days, visions were infrequent. The lamp of the Lord had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord where the ark of God was, that the Lord called Samuel; and he said, ‘here I am’” 1 Samuel 3: 1, 3-4 This scripture certainly shows us that “ministering to the Lord” is the way to hear from God. Instead of people calling out today and saying, “Oh God, where are You,” it would be far better if we would all humbly quiet ourselves in His presence, and remain in His presence, until we hear our God saying, “I am right here. Where are you?” Jame

Samuel Shows Us How To Hear From God

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord. And word from the Lord was rare in those days, visions were infrequent. The lamp of the Lord had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord where the ark of God was, that the Lord called Samuel; and he said, ‘here I am’” 1 Samuel 3: 1, 3-4 “Word from the Lord was rare in those days,” yet Samuel, at three years old, heard from God. Here are the simple principles of Samuel. First, see your self as a new born child dedicated to the Lord. Second, live out that dedication by ministering to the Lord, bonding with God, and prefer being in His presence. Be so at peace and at rest wit

Here I Am

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the Lord. And word from the Lord was rare in those days, visions were infrequent. The lamp of the Lord had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord where the ark of God was, that the Lord called Samuel; and he said, ‘here I am’” 1 Samuel 3: 1, 3-4 Samuel bonded with God through ministering to the Lord. He even preferred to sleep in the temple, to be near the ark, to be as close to the Lord as possible. Little Samuel felt safe with the Lord. He was at rest, in fact, when God called Him. This reminds me directly of the account in the book of Acts, of Paul and the elders of the church a

The Kingdom Of Heaven Within You

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord, as a boy” 1 Samuel 2:18 This verse reminds me of what our Savior, Jesus Christ, declared when he said “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). Ministering to the Lord is entering the kingdom of heaven, which is within us, because of our indwelling resurrected Lord of Life, Jesus Christ. God is looking for true followers today who will be “converted and become like children,” like Samuel, and enter the kingdom of heaven to minister to the Lord. Each of us have been given the spirit of the living God, dwelling within us.

The Little Child Within You

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord, as a boy” 1 Samuel 2:18 What a beautiful heart Samuel had, that he wanted to minister to the Lord so much. His mother Hannah, had dedicated him in prayer to God and left, “and he worshiped the Lord there” (1:28). His father, Elkanah, went home to Ramah, “but the boy ministered to the Lord” (2:11). Oh may we learn now, what Samuel seemed to know even as a boy, that is, to always draw near to the presence of God and minister to Him, no matter what. Samuel was not from the tribe of Levi, of the priests; his father, Elkanah, being “an Ephramite” (1:1). Samuel “ministered to the Lord” (2:11) in the spirit of Go

“But The Boy Ministered To The Lord”

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Then Elkanah went to his home at Ramah. But the boy ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest” 1 Samuel 2:11 Samuel’s father went home to Ramah, “but the boy ministered to the Lord.” This is the first time in scripture that the phrase “ministered to the Lord” appears. Ministering to the Lord is so simple that even a child can do it. However, ministering to the Lord is so special that only a child of God can do it. The act of ministering to the Lord comes out of who we are. I am a minister to the Lord therefore I minister to the Lord. Samuel, as a little child of three, had been brought up thus far by his mother, Hannah, who had dedicated him to t

Let God’s Presence Fill Your Absence

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord.’ And he worshiped the Lord there” 1 Samuel 1:28 Hannah, who was greatly loved by her husband, yet childless, sought the Lord and prayed fervently for His mercy upon her, that she would bear a child which, she promised God, “I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life” (vs. 11). Scripture says, “The Lord remembered her” (vs19) and Samuel was born, whom Hannah did dedicate to God. The first reference to little Samuel, just three years old, as his mother brought him to the

Come To The Resting Place

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “You shall not do at all what we are doing here today, every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes; for you have not as yet come to the resting place and the inheritance which the Lord you God is giving you” Deuteronomy 12: 8-9 God wanted, and still wants, all of His people to “come to the resting place and the inheritance which the Lord your God is giving you.” In the Old Testament, God spoke of this in reference to His people coming into the promised land (vs 10) and establishing God’s dwelling place in Jerusalem (vs 5-7). In the New Testament we, also, are not to be “every man doing what is right in his own eyes,” for God’s will is still tha

We Have Become God’s Holy Habitation

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation; this is my God and I will praise Him... In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed; in Your strength You have guided them to Your holy habitation” Exodus 15: 2,13 These words of praise from the song of Moses, after God had delivered the people of Israel from Pharaoh’s army, defeating them in the red sea, speak of God’s ultimate goal in redeeming His people, namely “You have guided them to Your holy habitation.” The sign of our full redemption is that, not only are we delivered from sin, but we are delivered to God’s holy habitation. Today, as Christians,

May The Cloud And The Fire Of The Lord Bless Your Life This Day

Today’s Word Of Encouragement From Wayne: “Thus Moses finished the work. Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel” Exodus 40: 33-34, 38 We are the present day tabernacle of our Lord, and Jesus Christ, by His blood, has made us to be a kingdom of priests to God our Father (1 Corinthians 3:16, Revelation 1:5-6, 5:9-10). It is our divine privilege, and call, to minister to our Lord in His presence. This last verse in the book of Exodus shows us what God provides for us as we do minist
